2018 Scarecrows and Gardens – review

We had a wonderful afternoon at the Scarecrow Trail and Open Gardens… on Sunday afternoon, 19th August 2018.

The weather was fine for walking about and finding all the impressive scarecrows and gardens.

Scarecrow Trail

There were well over 20 scarecrows on the Scarecrow Trail – there was no set theme, so we had all sorts of interesting scarecrows.

There were 149 maps sold, and I reckon there could be 3 or 4 people in each group going around the village – maybe around 500 people all together.

The winners of the scarecrow trail were:-

Family category
Winner – Minion Mischief, 16/18 High Street
Runner up – Terror and the Tardis, 14 East Street
Adult category
Winner – Summer of 2018, 26 Bakers Lane
Runner up – The Tooth Fairy, 24 Greenhill Road

We have photographs of the winning entries on our 2018 photograph page. Please take a look at 2018 Feast Week Photos

Many thanks to William and Susie Mitchell for arranging this event.

Scarecrow Competition

The scarecrows from the Scarecrow Competition (businesses and organisations) will be on show at the Produce and Craft Show, which will be held on Saturday 25th August.

Open Gardens

We also had nine gardens open on Sunday, and there was a steady flow of people coming round. The latest count is that we sold about 160 entries to the gardens. We will hopefully be able to publish some photographs of the gardens and gardeners soon.

We were very pleased to see people from Yorkshire, Dudley, Leicester as well as ‘almost’ locals from Northampton and Rugby, and – of course – lots of Long Buckby people.

Many thanks to Maria Summerscale, and also Ann Bond and Sonia Bostrom, for organising the Open Gardens.

Shuttle Bus

There was a very good shuttle bus to transport us around the village.

Many thanks to Dan Angel for driving us all around.

Refreshments

Refreshments were available at the Baptist Church on the square from 1:00pm.

Many thanks to Nathan Toseland and his team for a great variety of cake and drinks.
